The Caterpillar 797B is an ultra class mining truck manufactured by Caterpillar Inc. The 797B is one of the largest mechanical dump trucks in the world.
This truck is so large that it can not be driven on the highway to location, so it must be taken there in pieces and constructed at the job site. A single tire of the Caterpillar 797B (the Michelin 59/80R63), costs $40,000, and is 13 feet (4 m) high.[citation needed]

Background
Caterpillar developed the 797 for the growing tar sands industry. When then former Cat CEO Glen Barton was asked what was the development for the 797 he gave this answer: "tar sands". In the tar sands area companies like Syncrude, Suncor and Albian have bought many Caterpillar 797s since its introduction. Today the 797/797B/797F is operating in places like Chile, Australia, Indonesia, Canadian Tar Sands and the Powder River Basin area of north-eastern Wyoming and south-eastern Montana.
The engine in the 797/797B is a 3524B which costs $600,000 and is made at Caterpillar's LEC (Large Engine Center) in Lafayette, Indiana. This particular engine is basically a pair of 3512 diesel engines hooked up to form the 24 cylinder 3524B. The 3512 has powered the 150 ton 785, 785B and the 785C since its introduction in late 1984. It is 3,158 cubic inches and is a V-12 diesel.During Minexpo 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada Caterpillar introduced a new 797F off-highway hauler. This has the C175 diesel which is 4,000hp and 6,469 cid which replaced the 3524B in the 797B.
Caterpillar is testing an electric drive 797B off-highway hauler. Caterpillar displayed a new 797F in the 380-400 ton range at Minexpo 2008 during 9/22-24 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cat also showed the new 345 ton 795F AC electric drive off-highway hauler at the same mining show according to The Peoria Journal Star of September 20, 2008. Industry trade magazine Engineering and Mining Journal in its November 2008 did a full story on pages 30-69 about Minexpo 2008 in Las Vegas. Caterpillar announced in 2006-2007 that they will be producing a electric drive system in some of their larger off-highway haulers. This new electric hauler will be known as the 795 and can carry between 320-350 tons. The first of the 795s are being built in Decatur, Illinois, and were first produced in late April early May, 2008. The 795F is only offered as a AC electric drive hauler. The new 5,187 cid 16 cylinder C175 engine powers the 3,400hp hauler. The 795F's capacity is 345 tons which is just 5 tons low
er the infamous 33-19 from GM. Page 34 of the The November Engineering and Mining Journal states the capacity of the new 795F is 345 tons. The new 797F is 4,000hp making it the most powerful off-highway hauler in the world. The 797F also got a new engine in the 20 cylinder C175 which is 6,469 cubic inches according to Cat.com. The new 797F is the first off-highway hauler to crack the 4,000hp mark.
Manufacture
In late June 2008 The National Geographic Channel did a series on ultimate factories where fire trucks, John Deere combines, were featured. An hour of this series was dedicated to the Caterpillar 797B with Kevin Moore as host.
The viewers were taken through 6 different factories: Lafayette, Indiana; Decatur and Joliet, Illinois; Lexington, South Carolina; Amite, Louisiana; and Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. The huge 3524B engine is made in Lafayette. The largest frame component is cast in Amite, Louisiana. The cab is made in Joliet, Illinois. The frame is welded together and the engine is installed in Decatur, Illinois. The huge Michelin tires are made in Lexington, South Carolina. And finally the dump body and final assembly takes place at the mine site.

John Peel's Record Box is a documentary film made by Elaine Shepherd, released on November 14, 2005 on Channel 4. It was nominated for Primetime Emmy Award.
It is about a small private collection of the British radio DJ John Peel who died in 2004 in the age of 65. His archive contained more than 100,000 vinyl records and CDs. This collection contains 143 singles - some of them doublettes - stored in a private wooden box representing some of his own favourites.

Ascorbic acid is a sugar acid with antioxidant properties. Its appearance is white to light-yellow crystals or powder. It is water-soluble. The L-enantiomer of ascorbic acid is commonly known as vitamin C. The name is derived from the alpha privative a- (meaning no) and scorbuticus (scurvy), the disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C. In 1937 the Nobel Prize for chemistry was awarded to Walter Haworth for his work in determining the structure of ascorbic acid (shared with Paul Karrer, who received his award for work on vitamins), and the prize for Physiology or Medicine that year went to Albert Szent-Gy?rgyi for his studies of the biological functions of L-ascorbic acid. At the time of its discovery in the 1920s, it was called hexuronic acid by some researchers.

Ascorbic acid, the formula of which is C6H8O6, behaves as a vinylogous carboxylic acid, wherein the double bond ("vinyl") transmits electron pairs between the hydroxyl and the carbonyl. There are two resonance structures for the deprotonated form, differing in the position of the double bond.
Another way to look at ascorbic acid is to consider it as an enol. The deprotonated form is an enolate, which is usually strongly basic. However, the adjacent double bond stabilizes the deprotonated form.

Tautomerism

Nucleophilic attack of ascorbic enol on proton to give 1,3-diketone
Ascorbic acid also interconverts into two unstable diketone tautomers by proton transfer, although it is the most stable in the enol form. The proton of the enol is lost, and reacquired by electrons from the double bond, to produce a diketone. This is an enol reaction. There are two possible forms: 1,2-diketone and 1,3-diketone.
Determination
The concentration of a solution of ascorbic acid can be determined in many ways, the most common ways involving titration with an oxidizing agent.
DCPIP
A commonly-used oxidising agent is the dye 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol, or DCPIP for short. The blue dye is run into the ascorbic acid solution, which turns pink in the acid conditions, until the solution is decolourised.
Iodine
Another method involves using iodine and a starch indicator, wherein iodine reacts with ascorbic acid, and, when all the ascorbic acid has reacted, the iodine is then in excess, forming a blue-black complex with the starch indicator. This indicates the end-point of the titration. As an alternative, ascorbic acid can be reacted with iodine in excess, followed by back titration with sodium thiosulfate while using starch as an indicator.

The above method involving iodine requires making up and standardising the iodine solution. One way around this is to generate the iodine in the presence of the ascorbic acid by the reaction of iodate and iodide ion in acid solution.
N-Bromosuccinimide
A much-less-common oxidising agent is N-bromosuccinimide, (NBS). In this titration, the NBS oxidises the ascorbic acid (in the presence of potassium iodide and starch). When the NBS is in excess (i.e., the reaction is complete), the NBS liberates the iodine from the potassium iodide, which then forms the blue/black complex with starch, indicating the end-point of the titration.

A reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive-displacement compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure.
The intake gas enters the suction manifold, then flows into the compression cylinder where it gets compressed by a piston driven in a reciprocating motion via a crankshaft, and is then discharged. History
The Pompeian company was started in Lucca, Italy in the late 1800s. At the time, the region of Tuscany was world renowned for its cultivation and production of olive oil. Lucca close proximity to the port of Genoa made it an ideal international trading post, allowing the export of Pompeian Olive Oil throughout the world. One of its most important markets was the United States, whose consumers were just discovering Pompeian Olive Oil.
As the twentieth century began, Pompeian appealed to the burgeoning European community in the United States and also to the many Americans who were just discovering olive oil good taste and culinary versatility.
Because of its early success in the United States, in 1906 a young entrepreneur named Nathan Musher purchased the Pompeian Olive Oil Company of Lucca, Italy and continued to produce olive oil in Italy and import it to the United States.
He also became famous for importing bulk olive oil and built warehouses in Genoa, Tortosa, Barcelona, Malaga and Baltimore. The warehouses were equipped with steel tanks, glass-enameled for the perfect keeping of olive oil. The warehouse at Baltimore had a capacity of a-million-and-a-half gallons of olive oil. At the time, this warehouse was one of the largest and finest in the world.
As America entered the Roaring Twenties, the Baltimore warehouse becomes the catalyst for expansion of Pompeian. In the late 1920, because of turmoil taking place in Europe, the Musher family decided to cease production in Lucca, and move production to the Baltimore location where it still exists today.
In 1930, the company was sold to the Hoffberger family. This successful American entrepreneurial family had many packaged goods companies and were diversified enough to own an American icon, the Baltimore Orioles for fifteen years. Under the Hoffbergers direction, Pompeian expanded nationally, making it the first national olive oil brand in history.
Among those who appeared in early Pompeian ads was actress Katherine de Mille, daughter of the famous movie director, and a wife of Anthony Quinn. In the 1940, Pompeian was promoted nationally and became a household word.
The company was propelled even further when the Moreno family of Spain acquired it in 1975. Already a leader in non-foods and foods such as olive oil, wine, and other high-quality specialty items from Spain, they anticipated the emergence of the influence of the Mediterranean diet on the American palate, and recognized the significance of owning their own bottling operation in America.
The Moreno family realized that the purchase of the brand might serve to open up distribution to some of their other fine products, but more importantly, it guaranteed that they could import the highest quality olive oil from the Mediterranean region of the world, while still ensuring that the brand both met and exceeded all US health and quality standards. In essence, providing the American consumer with he best of both worlds.
Baldo Moreno of Spain purchased the Pompeian brand in 1975, and a new generation of the family still runs it today. In 2005, Bill Monroe, who was instrumental in popularizing olive oil in the United States while at Bertolli, was named Chief Executive Officer of Pompeian.
100th Anniversary in Baltimore
In May 11, 2006, Pompeian marked its 100th anniversary in Baltimore with a commemorative ceremony, luncheon and tour of Pompeian importing and bottling facility. The company which employs 50 area residents and reported $75 million in sales was honored with a citation from the office of Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and a ompeian Olive Oil Day proclamation from the office of Mayor Martin Oalley. To demonstrate its appreciation to Baltimore, Pompeian donated $10,000 to the Baltimore City Public School System. The company also donated $1000 each to Our Lady of Pompei in Baltimore and The Christian Brothers which went to The Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore.
The anniversary event was attended by over 100 other people including members of the Musher and Hoffberger families who shared their memorabilia and recollections with the guests.

Cambodian woman weaving silk
There are three important silk textiles in Cambodia. They include the ikat silks (chong kiet in Khmer), or hol, the twill-patterned silks and the weft ikat textiles. Patterns are made by tying natural and synthetic fibers on the weft threads and then it is dyed. It is repeated for different colors until the patterns firm and cloth is woven. Traditionally, five colors are used. Red, yellow, green, blue and black are the most used.. The Sampot Hol is used as a lower garment and as the sampot chang kben. The Pidan Hol is used as a ceremonial hanging used for religious purposes.
Sot silk weaving has been an important part of Cambodia's cultural past. It has been documented that people from Tak Province have woven silk since the Funan era and records, bas-relief and Zhou Daguan's report have shown that looms were used to weave sampots since ancient times. Since ancient times, women have learned highly complex methods and intricate patterns, one of which is the hol method. It involves dying patterns on silk before weaving. What remains unique to Cambodian weavers is the uneven twill technique, the reason remains unclear why they adopted such an unusual method. The ancient bas-reliefs however provides a complete look at how fabrics were like, down to patterns and pleats. Silk woven pieces are used as heirlooms, in weddings and funerals, and as decoration in temples.
Sampot

The sampot is the national garment of Cambodia. The traditional dress is similar to those worn in the neighboring countries of Laos and Thailand, but variations do exist between the countries. The sampot dates back to the Funan era when a Cambodian king ordered the people of his kingdom to wear the sampot at the request of Chinese envoys.
Variations
There are many variations for the sampot, each is worn according to social class. The typical sampot, known also as the sarong is typically worn by men and women of lower class. It measures approximately one and a half meters and both ends are sewn together. It is tied to safely secure it on the waist.
The Sampot Chang Kben (?????????????, ALA-LC: sa?b ca? kpin) is the preferred choice of clothing for women of upper and middle classes for daily wear. This practice of daily wear died out in the beginning of the twentieth century. Unlike the typical Sampot, it is more of a pant than a skirt. It is a rectangular piece of cloth measuring 3 meters long and one meters wide. It is worn by wrapping it around the waist, stretching it away from the body and twisting the knot. The knot is then pulled between the legs and held by a metal belt. Regardless of class, all Cambodian women wear the Sampot Chang Kben on special events. Men may also wear it, but the traditional patterns depend on gender. The Sampot Chang Kben is adopted in Thailand and Laos, where it is known as kraben. It dates to the to ancient Cambodia where deities often wore such styles.

The Sampot Phamuong (??????????? ALA-LC: sa?b ph? mua?) are many different variation of traditional Khmer textiles. They are single colored and twill woven. There are currently 52 colors used in Sampot Phamuong. The Phamuong Chorabap is a luxurious fabric using up to 22 needles to create. Phamuong variation are rabak, chorcung, anlounh, kaneiv and bantok. It usually contains floral and geometrical motifs. The most valued silk used to create the Phamuong is Cambodian yellow silk, known for its fine quality. New designs draw inspiration from ancient patterns of old silk.
The Sampot Hol (????????? ALA-LC: sa?b h?l) is a typical traditional textile. There are two kinds of Sampot Hol, one is a wrapping skirt that uses a technique called chong kiet and twill weave. Influenced by the Indian patola, it developed patterns and techniques over the centuries to become a genuine Khmer art style. The sampot hol has over 200 patterns combined with three to five colors, yellow, red, brown, blue, and green. There are four variations, sampot hol, sampot hol por, sampot hol kben and sampot hol ktong. Patterns are usually geometric motifs, animals, and flower motifs.

Jet is a geological material and is considered to be a minor gemstone. Jet is not considered a true mineral, but rather a mineraloid as it has an organic origin, being derived from decaying wood under extreme pressure.
The English word-name "jet" derives from the French word for the same material: jaiet. Jet is either black or dark brown, but may contain pyrite inclusions, which are of brassy color and metallic lustre. The adjective jet-black is better-known perhaps than the substance from which the descriptive phrase derives.

Origin
Jet is a product of high pressure decomposition of wood from millions of years ago, commonly the wood of trees of the Araucariaceae family. Jet is found in two forms, hard and soft. Hard jet is the result of the carbon compression and salt water; soft jet is the result of the carbon compression and fresh water. Jet is easily polished and is used in manufacturing jewellery, according to the Whitby Museum, dating from 10,000BC in parts of contemporary Germany. The oldest jet jewellery was found in Asturias, Spain, dating from 17,000 BC.
History
Jet as a gem material was highly popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, during which the Queen wore Whitby jet as part of her mourning dress. Jet was popular for mourning jewellery in the 19th century because of its sombre color and modest appearance, and it has been traditionally fashioned into rosaries for monks. In the United States, long necklaces of jet beads were very popular during the 1920s, or Roaring Twenties, when women and young flappers would wear multiple strands of jet beads stretching from the neckline to the waistline. In these necklaces, the jet was strung using heavy cotton thread; small knots were made on either side of each bead to keep the beads spaced evenly, much in the same way that fine pearl necklaces are made. Jet has also been known as black amber, as it may induce an electric charge like that of amber when rubbed. Powdered jet added to water or wine was believed to have medicinal powers.[citation needed]

Authenticating jet
Although now much less popular than in the past, authentic jet jewels are valued by collectors.
Unlike black glass, which is cool to the touch, jet is not cool, due to its lesser thermal conductivity.
Anthracite (hard coal) and Vulcanite (hardened rubber) are superficially similar to fine jet, and have been used to imitate it. These imitations are not always easy to distinguish from the real thing.
The structure of jet (which is remarkably like the wood that it is derived from) can be seen under 120x or greater magnification.

A goldsmith is a metalworker who specializes in working with gold and other precious metals. Since ancient times the techniques of a Goldsmith have evolved very little in order to produce items of jewelry of quality standards. In modern times actual Goldsmiths are rare. Historically goldsmiths have also made flatware, platters, goblets, decorative and serviceable utensils, and ceremonial or religious items, but the rising prices of precious metals have curtailed the making of such items to a large degree. Goldsmiths must be skilled in forming metal through filing, soldering, sawing, forging, casting, and polishing metal. Traditionally, these skills had been passed along through apprenticeships, however, more recently Jewelry Arts Schools specializing solely in teaching goldsmithing and a multitude of skills falling under the jewelry arts umbrella are available. The nature of gold
Coupled with aesthetic attractiveness and rarity, gold's physical properties have given gold and items made from it, an unparalleled place in human history. Gold is so malleable and ductile that even primitive tools can work it to a high level of detail. It is fairly easily "pressure welded", which is to say that two small pieces can be pounded together to make one larger piece, similar to clay. Gold is a noble metal it does not react with most elements. That means it is usually found in its native form, that it will last virtually forever without oxidization and tarnishing, and that it is easily melted, fused and cast without the problems of oxides and gas that are problematic with bronzes, for example. Throughout history, people have found its lustre and color to be aesthetically pleasing.
Since prehistoric times, mankind has been able to simply pick up gold off the ground, and anyone with two rocks would be able to form it into some pleasing or useful item. A major part of that history has been played by those who work in gold: goldsmiths.
History
Gold has been worked by humans in all cultures where the metal is available, either indigenously or imported, and the history of these activities is extensive. Superbly made objects from the ancient cultures of Europe, Africa, India, Asia, South America, Mesoamerica, and North America grace museums and collections around the world. Some pieces date back thousands of years and were made using many techniques that are still used by modern goldsmiths.
In medieval Europe goldsmiths were organized in guilds and were usually one of the most important and wealthy of the guilds in a city. The guild kept records of members and the marks they used on their products. These records are very useful to historians, were they to survive. Goldsmiths often acted as bankers, since they dealt in gold and had sufficient security for the safe storage of valuable items. In the Middle Ages, goldsmithing normally included silversmithing as well, but the brass workers and workers in other base metals were normally in a separate guild since the trades were not allowed to overlap. Usually jewelers were goldsmiths.
The printmaking technique of engraving developed among goldsmiths in Germany around 1430, who had long used the technique on their metal pieces. The notable engravers of the 1400s either were goldsmiths, as was Master E. S., or the sons of goldsmiths, such as Martin Schongauer and Albrecht Der
The modern goldsmith
It has been said that goldsmithing is the only art which uses some aspect of all other arts. Thus a fully realized goldsmith might have a wide array of skills and knowledge at their disposal. Gold, being the most malleable metal of all, offers unique opportunities for the worker. In today's world a wide variety of other metals, especially platinum alloys, may also be used extensively. 24 karat gold is generally called fine gold, and is the starting place for working with gold. Usually the gold is alloyed into any of various blends and colors, and the goldsmith may have some skill in that process. Then the gold may be cast into some item, usually with the lost wax casting process, or it may be used to fabricate the work directly in metal. In the latter case, the goldsmith will use a variety of tools and machinery, including the rolling mill, the drawplate, and perhaps swage blocks and other forming tools to make the metal into shapes needed to build the intended piece.
